Forgotten Horrors

The Nazi sub-camp system

Germering-Neuauben

Germering-Neuauben

Germering- Neuauben was situated in the Neuauben/Neuaubing district of Munich, close to the railway repair yard (later RAW Freimann) and the Munich-Landsberg road. The factory of the Dornier aircraft company was only a few kilometres away and the camp was established at the request of Dornier. It is thought that the camp held around 1,600 labourers, although the precise number isn't clear. They appear to have been treated humanely by the camp commandant, SS Hauptsturmfuhrer Ludwig Geiss. The date on which the camp was established is also unclear but aerial reconnaissance photographs taken in July 1944 show six barracks for inmates, three barracks for guards and one other building. The guards were drawn from the SS and the camp was surrounded by the usual wire and guard towers. The camp is thought to have closed in May 1945.
