Forgotten Horrors

The Nazi sub-camp system

Eschelbach

Eschelbach

As mentioned in the entry for Bayersoien (Echelsbach), a typing error in the 1967 German Ministry of Justice list led to some confusion between this sub-camp and a supposed site at Echelsbach, near Bad Bayersoien, Schongau, Upper Bavaria.

Fortunately, there is a rather plain map (top left) contained within a document, entitled 'External Work Details for SS and National Socialist Institutions' published by the House of Bavarian History which shows the location of Eschelbach as being in the district of Wolnzach.

According to an email contact I've received from the museum archive at Dachau, around 40 prisoners from Dachau main camp were forced to lay cable to the next province town. The camp was located in a former nursing station of the Don Bosco Sisters and existed from December 1944 to April 1945.
