Bad Tolz served the SS 'Junkerschule' - a large training school for Waffen SS officers which was located on the eastern side of the town. According to Terry Goldsworthy in Valhalla's Warriors: A History of the Waffen-SS on the Eastern Front 1941-1945 (citing Hathaway: 1999, 83) the sub-camp was actually in the Junkerschule itself, specifically the cells in the basement of the school. These cells could house 50 prisoners at any one time. The sub-camp was established between 1940 and 1941 as one of the first 14 sub-camps of Dachau. The prisoners basically constituted a cleaning and demolition squad serving the Junkerschule. According to the Dachau KZ blog, this detachment consisted of 180 men.
