The Steepholmers are a new men's sea shanty group that formed in Weston-super-Mare in early summer 2018, with a little help from a certain popular video game with a nautical theme (seriously). We meet every Wednesday at The New Inn in the village of Kewstoke, just outside Weston (7pm until 9pm if you would like to join us) and perform a range of popular sea shanties while always remaining keen on learning new ones to enhance our repertoire. Some of us like dressing up a bit - think tricorn hats and the 'Poldark' look you won't be too far off - and we are now just starting to perform in public. So, if you would like to join in, you will be most welcome. Or, if you would like us to perform somewhere, that would be great. Please contact us to discuss when and where and further arrangements.

Thanks and best wishes, The Steepholmers

Steepholmers appearance at Port Isaac Sea Shanty Festival a huge success, including praise from a member of Fisherman's Friends!
The Steepholmers performances at this year's Port Isaac Sea Shanty festival were all warmly received, including a glowing compliment from a member of the famous Fisherman's Friends sea shanty band, for whom Port Isaac is home...and don't forget the movie of course.
The compliment, was communicated to Nigel Glanville-Gittins by Fisherman's Friends member John Brown, within earshot of several other Steepholmers singers, following our Friday evening performance in the marquee, located near the main stage on the hill above the village. Our rendition of "South Australia" was particularly praised by John who said our version of the song was really good. John is a former lobster fisherman who has lived in Port Isaac all his life and whose family have fished from the village "for as long as reliable records go back", according to the Fisherman's Friends website.
"Well I have to say that I was not expecting such praise from one of the Fisherman's Friends" wrote Nigel on Facebook and elsewhere said he was "delighted" - as were the rest of us course.
Aside from the Friday performance in the Marquee, all our performances throughout the course of the festival, consisting of another set on the marquee stage on Saturday, two sets at The Old School Hotel in the village and another at Daisy's Corner mid-way between the village and the main stage area, were very well received indeed, with the band delivering sterling performances throughout. Indeed, during one of our Old School Hotel sets, we attracted particularly loud, whooping, praise from a young set of fans sat nearby, for which of course we are very grateful.

In conclusion then, it is safe to say, we think, that The Steepholmers have yet again achieved a big success in our appearance at Port Isaac, building on previous successes at Mevagissey 2019 and our own sea shanty festival in Weston-super-Mare. We're all really excited to see what rapidly approaching appearances at Bristol Harbour Sea Shanty Festival and Mevagissey 2021 will bring. Watch this space!
Steepholmers follow hugely successful Weston-super-Mare festival with well-received appearances at Watchet and Teignmouth
The Steepholmers put on a glowing performance in front of a very appreciative audience at Teignmouth in early September
The hugely successful Weston-super-Mare Sea Shanty and Folk Music Festival 2021 appears to have well and truly put The Steepholmers on the sea-shanty musical map, with increased bookings and particularly successful appearances at Watchet and Teignmouth.
The band's calendar now looks fairly well packed, with booked performances continuing into December. Both our appearances at Watchet and Teignmouth were warmly received by very appreciative audiences and as a result our reputation and standing is increasing steadily both among audiences and other sea shanty bands.
